How is an optional reservation confirmed without credit card?

Am I crazy to think the current SOP for optional reservations in MEWS does not make sense? Currently:FD: Manually create Optional Reservation MEWS: Optional Reservation Email sent GUEST: clicks on email and then “Confirms” MEWS: Reservation Confirmed MEWS: “Reservation Confirmation” automatically sent to guest which contains link to “Online check-in” FD: Requests Guest to check-in online (even though stay date could be months in advance) so that credit card details are taken GUEST: Checks in Online (hopefully!) and enters CC info FD: We can charge the reservationThat Step 6 winds up being very confusing and frustrating for guests. As they don’t understand why their reservation is not confirmed after they get a confirmation email. Isn’t it the card information that confirms the reservation?  Isn’t a reservation without payment information is fundamentally not confirmed? Am I wrong on this?Thanks!Ethan

Experience with the ID Scanner

I'm looking around for the best solution for the ID scanner. According to the statement for our setup manager, all data relevant for the country should be transferred with the Mews scanner. Now I have made some tests and e.g. no address is transferred for the German ID.Are there any recommendations for external scanners?Thanks for your input.

Idle sign out

Hey!Anyone else that has experienced that (especially) front desk staff are not signing in on their own accounts, and rather just use the account already logged on?I feel like an automatic sign-out after being inactive for 10-15 minutes might help (if autofill-in can be disabled). This would also be beneficial for security reasons.How have you approached this?

Mews products and Fareharbor

Hello, Have anyone of you found a way to integrate Mews products with Fareharbor? We are a resort where we sell plenty of activities and packages of accommodation and activities, and we use Fareharbor to manage our activities. At the moment we have to manually make the reservation of the activities in Farehabor when someone books an activity though our booking engine, we manage the payment through Mews and then we select as payment method that we called in Fareharbor “Paid in Mews”. This solution is far from being ideal.I’m sure there are more hoteliers with the same problem, it would be nice to know how others handle the issue.

How do you sell products without adding to a Guests Profile without utilising a POS.?

We have a customer profile setup called ‘House Account’ this is shared across the enterprise & when a member of the public walks by & wants to purchase a product, we use the house account to process the sale.  The House Account is now very slow to load, due to a large amount of closed bills & payments.  We were suggested to create new house accounts each month, but unwilling to do that as the database will get messy very quickly.  If the guest is staying in house with us, we are encouraging staff to look up the guest to add the sale however some sites are very busy & if the guest purchases washing powder, bottle of water etc.. it is quicker for the staff to add to the generic house account rather than getting the guest details to add to their account. Really keen to hear if you have experienced this challenge & what you’ve done to overcome it.

Autofill for Mews booking engine

I realised that the Mews booking engine does not use labels for the form (first name, last name, email address, ...). Autofill won't work properly.Most browsers support autofill and I think Mews should make use of that. It will bring more convenience for guests.I posted this as an idea in the Mews feedback forum. How to manage staff shortages in Hotels

We are currently struggling in many countries with the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find suitable personnel. We have been dealing with this issue for some time now, which is why we also rely on MEWS. Our focus is on the following points:- Modern tools make the workplace more attractive. This gives us a competitive advantage also for younger generations.- Thanks to interfaces and a high user experience, we can reduce our routine work such as entering reservations, creating accounting reports, marketing, etc. by up to 60%.- We increasingly deploy staff in different departments at the same time and follow a holocratic approach.What is your experience with the staff shortage? And what measures are you taking in hoteltech to counteract it? Do you have best practices around MEWS?

Google Ads integration

I was recently contacted directly by Google to pilot with them for a new ads product. This is apparently more than sending the rates, availabilities... from MEWS to Google - something a lot of hotels running MEWS might already have. The bottom line is spending money based a on cost per click / commission model to rank higher as the OTAs and generate more revenue (which is Google’s promise, at least main assumption). I’m wondering how I can measure direct bookings related from a Google campaign? We run the integrated MEWS booking engine. Without being able to report on the success of a campaign I’m not willing to spend any incremental budget on that. Is anybody familiar with this topic and can help me regarding the backend integration? Thanks
