Hey Mews community 🙌

I'm excited to announce that we've improved how availability blocks work with parent and child spaces. Previously, when a parent space (e.g., an Apartment or Suite) had an availability block, the system didn't properly account for its child spaces (e.g., individual Beds or Rooms within that parent). This meant reservations could be created or moved into child spaces even when the parent was fully blocked — leading to inventory inconsistencies.

This has now been fixed! Availability blocks are now hierarchy-aware, meaning they correctly reflect availability across the entire parent-child space structure.

💪 What's changed:

  • Blocking a parent space now reduces child space availability — if an Apartment is blocked by an availability block, the Beds within it will no longer show as available
  • Blocking a child space now impacts parent availability — if enough Beds in an Apartment are blocked, the Apartment itself reflects reduced availability
  • Drag-and-drop on the timeline respects parent-child blocks — you can no longer accidentally move a reservation into a child space when the parent is blocked by an availability block
  • New reservations respect the hierarchy — creating a reservation for a child space correctly considers blocks on its parent, preventing inventory conflicts

👏 What's in it for you:

  • Accurate availability across parent-child space setups
  • Consistent inventory and overbooking behavior
  • Reliable timeline interactions
  • Confidence in your availability block reports

🤔 What you should know:

  • We’ll run the beta for ~2 weeks depending on the feedback and end in the first week of June
  • Availability blocks now use a "minimum resource" allocation — when blocking child spaces (e.g., Beds), the system first uses unattached spaces with no parent before consuming spaces within a parent-child structure
    • This means that before reservations are picked up, the Availability & Occupancy report shows a projection based on this optimized logic. Once reservations are picked up and assigned to specific spaces, the report reflects the actual occupancy.
    • For properties that have a mix of standalone and connected spaces in the same child category (e.g., some Beds inside an Apartment and some Beds with no parent), the pre-pickup projection may differ slightly from the final assignment, since reservation assignment still follows your configured strategy (Random, Top-down, Bottom-up, or Preferred Space Features). Once pickup happens, the report self-corrects.
    • If you notice any unexpected overbooking conflicts, please flag them in the comments so we can investigate.
