KYB (“Know Your Business”) is a legal mandatory requirement for anyone offering payment services—including Mews. It’s not just extra admin (promise! 😉). KYB checks help us confirm your business is real, who owns or controls it, and that the bank account for payouts matches your contract. This protects both your business and your guests.
Why KYB matters for your Go-Live
No approved KYB means no Mews Payments, no terminals, and no payouts. Incomplete, incorrect, or late KYB is one of the main reasons go-live dates get postponed. The tricky part? The people we need documents from (owners, holding companies, head office) are often not in the project team, so getting the right paperwork can take longer than you think. ⏱️
Treat KYB as a Mini-Project
To avoid delays, start your KYB process on day one! Here’s how to keep things moving:
- Identify the exact legal entity that will contract with Mews, the legal representative, and all UBOs (Ultimate Beneficial Owners: anyone owning or controlling 25% or more). If nobody owns at least 25% of shares, we still need a UBO - the CEO, President or other senior manager.
- For each person: collect a valid photo ID (passport, national ID, or driver’s licence) and a recent proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, or government letter, usually issued within 3–6 months).
- For the business: get a recent company registration extract and a company bank statement (from the last 3 months) showing the same legal name as on your Mews contract.
- If your business structure is complex (owner vs operator, management company, holding), let your Mews contact know early, a quick chat now can save weeks later! 🕵️♀️
