Big news: we’re evolving how rate management works in Mews - and it’s going to make your life a whole lot easier.
If you’ve ever found yourself juggling dozens of base rates just to manage different seasons, taxes, or guest types, this update is for you. We're moving toward a "Single Base Rate" model that gives you more control, less complexity, and full compatibility with Revenue Management Systems (RMS) - including Atomize.
What’s changing?
Right now, many hoteliers are forced to create multiple base rates just to support variations like:
- Seasonal differences in pricing
- Guest-specific tax rules (like veterans or government exemptions)
- Per-guest adjustments on corporate or special rates
This bloats your setup, makes rate management harder, and blocks optimization by RMS tools that are designed to work with just one or a few base rates.
We’re fixing that.
The new approach
Over the next few months, we’re rolling out powerful updates that will let you do more with fewer rates. Here’s what’s coming:
- Seasonal Derivation for Dependent Rates (live now – read all about it!): Adjust dependent rates based on seasonality, and even per room-category - no extra base rates required.
- Advanced Per-Guest Pricing (coming soon): Override per guest pricing per rate. Want a third guest free on your corporate rate but not your standard rate? You’ll no longer need two base rates to do it.
- Independent Taxes on Dependent Rates (coming soon): Assign different tax configurations to dependent rates. Great for U.S. hotels needing to offer tax-exempt government rates or OTA-specific taxes - all while sticking to one base rate.
Why it matters
This shift eliminates the need for duplicate base rates and unlocks major benefits:
- Simpler, faster rate management: Fewer rates to configure and maintain means less manual work - and fewer mistakes.
- RMS compatibility: Modern RMSs (including Atomize) perform best when managing a small number of base rates. This change sets you up for better automation and revenue results.
- Greater flexibility: You can now apply seasonal rules, guest pricing, and tax variations directly within dependent rates - without restructuring your setup.
This isn’t just a system update - it’s a strategic shift designed to make your pricing setup more agile, more accurate, and more aligned with the future of hospitality tech.
