We’ve been working hard on an upgrade to Mews Digital Key that we think you (and your guests) are gonna like!
Wallet-based room keys are now available with Mews. No more workarounds with third-party providers; it’s all fully built in. And as the only PMS with wallet room keys built into the system, this is a first for the industry!
Here are a few reasons why your guests and staff are going to like it:
It’s easier for guests (and they expect it!)
It lightens the load for front desk staff
It’s better for the planet (no more plastic keycards)
It’s another step toward frictionless guest experiences
How to get started
Wallet-based room keys work with ASSA ABLOY Vostio NFC door locks.

Does this also work with Salto?
Hello!
nice, but little info…
AssaAbloy/Vostio based?
NFC or BLE based?
kind regards,
jp.
Finaly!
I’m not sure I fully understand how to activate it. I’m currently using digital keys with Vostio through the Bluetooth/app solution, but I can’t find any information on how to enable the wallet option instead?
I would be interested to hear about the experiences of hoteliers who are using Vostio live and how guests are using the option. How are the guest reactions? Are there any technical problems?
Does this also work with Salto?
Hi @Ivo, thank you for the question.
Currently, wallet-based keys are only compatible with Assa Abloy Vingcard door locks running Vostio. We’ve taken a note of the interest for Salto and will of course keep you informed if this changes in future.

Hi @j.spiess, thank you for the question.
Wallet-based keys use NFC technology, not bluetooth. Wallet keys are only compatible with Vostio v10, so if you’re an existing Vostio customer you may need to upgrade your system to support wallet keys.
If you’re interested to learn more, you can speak with your local Assa Ablot contact directly or complete the form linked in the original post.

Hi @Vegard Kaspersen, thank you for the question.
Wallet-based keys require the use Vostio v10 from Assa Abloy, so an upgrade to your system is likely required before Wallet keys can be enabled.
You can reach out to your local Assa Abloy contact or complete the request form in the original post if you’d like to be contacted by Assa Abloy to discuss further.
Thank you for sharing this update. I noticed that wallet-based room keys are compatible with ASSA ABLOY Vostio NFC door locks. Do you know if they are also compatible with Onity locks?

Hello! @james.taylor
According to our key solution vendor we need some additional licences and Setup services for the Wallet Key solution, however, they are not sure exactly what is required for the pure NFC/Wallet Solution with MEWS.
An initial offer shows:
So it would be great to receive some more detailed information on what exactly is needed.
Is the Vostio Advanced Solution enough, if only NFC based keys are required?
Is the Vostio MobileKey Solution required in addition?
Is there a need for some on-site setup?
My previous understanding is that the Mobilkey Solution was required for BLE (as well as the on-site setup), but for the new NFC solution we (and our Vendor) are not sure …
So maybe you can get some more in depth technical and license info from your contact at AssaAbloy!
Best regards,
Jean-Philipp.

Hi @Jasmin H., thank you for these good questions.
This is still quite new with customers, but we also published a press release today which includes some quotes from one of our early customers.
If you’d like to get more insight it would be great to contact your Customer Success Manager to discuss getting further insights.

Hi @tomfullana, I’m afraid wallet keys with Mews Digital Key are only compatible with Assa Abloy Vostio at this time.
I’ve made a note of your interest and we’ll be sure to let you know if we extend support to other providers in future.

Hi @j.spiess, thank you for sharing this.
I saw your form submission come through. This has been routed to Assa Abloy so someone from their team should be contacting you in the next few days to discuss this further.
If you don’t hear anything, please let us know and we’ll follow-up so someone from their team contacts you.
@james.taylor Are you going to extend also with Dormakaba? Or only ASSA ABLOY Vostio NFC door locks? Best, Tamara

Hello @james.taylor !
We have not heard back from AssaAbloy as of now. However, our vendor’s contact at Ameya Austria asked me for a contact at MEWS to get some insight into the requirements. You or some colleague of yours may wish to contact him at [email protected] to follow up on that - might help other properties to get up to speed. I have heard that at least another property in Vienna is planning to implement MEWS Digital Key with Vostio soon…
Best regards,
Jean-Philipp.

Hi @j.spiess, thank you for sharing this.
I have followed up with Assa Abloy on this and hope that they will be in contact soon.
@james.taylor
I have another question for you: currently the Digital Key add-on in the mews market place is only available as a free 30 day trial. But there are no prices listed for the period after the trial:
Since we are already subscribed to enterprise tier MEWS, I was hoping for no additional cost :-)
Can you please clarify costs…
Best regards,
Jean-Philipp.
Hello @james.taylor & @gustavo.franco
Any update on this? Cost from mews side?
Kind regards,
jp.
@james.taylor is it planed for other doorlocks as well? is there an excisting road map?
Hello @james.taylor & @gustavo.franco
Any update on this? Cost from mews side?
Kind regards,
jp.
I have not heard back from AssaAbloy directly yet, but our vendor (Ameya) is trying to piece together the necessary steps - seems like it’s a complicated process - next step seems to be to setup a Meeting with our Mews Customer Success Manager…
It’s now been a month since we have submitted the request form. Well, that’s a little longer than the 5 business days outlined in help.mews.com 😉😉 …
Well, at least I found at that Digital Key Add.on should be included in our mews subscription (https://www.mews.com/en/pricing ), so I expect no addition cost from the mews side here, right?
Best regards,
JP.
@james.taylor
One more question: Do we need to provide the “Visual assets for Wallet keys” to AssaAbloy on our own, or are you using the data and images from mews to generate this content (logo and image for us in the digital wallet key card) ? Ameya requests it from us, but I want to avoid preparing it when there is already an established process to get these image asstes..
Regards,
JP.
Update: I was informed by Ameya/AssaAbloy as following:
"The cost per credential is circa 0,50€ which will be invoiced from Apple/Google directly to the customer.“
Whatever „circa“ means… ;-) and technically I have no idea how that will work.
is it really required to involve google/Apple? I mean as far as I understand it the process technically does not involve them, or are apple/google backend services involved?
@james.taylor would it be possible to gather all info in cooperation with assaAbloy and post them centrally and reliably.
best regards,
Jean-Philipp.
Hi @j.spiess, I apologise for the delay in coming back to you.
Regarding the process for Wallet keys, this should start with Assa Abloy. If you’re working with a vendor (Ameya) for your system, then I’m not sure how they’re sharing the necessary details to prepare wallet keys. I’ll follow up with Assa Abloy on this as I assume you haven’t been contacted based on your messages.
Regarding the cost, as your Mews subscription has the Advanced Guest Experience module, the Digital key is included as part of that package.
Regarding the visual assets for Wallet keys, these are uploaded directly into the Vostio system from Assa Abloy and used from there. This is not configured directly in Mews for Wallet keys.
Regarding the cost, I do not expect you need to have a direct relationship with Apple or Google. There is a cost per credential, but our understanding is that is handled between you and Assa Abloy.
Please also feel free to contact your Customer Success manager and I can work with them to help address any questions or challenges you have about the process in a call.
James
@james.taylor is it planed for other doorlocks as well? is there an excisting road map?
Hi @Johannes Rott, thank you for asking this.
At the moment I’m afraid we don’t have firm plans for additional door lock systems that we can share. It is our intention to expand compatibility to other systems, so please do keep an eye out for future messages on this.
Thank you,
James
