Updating product rules

Hello

We are changing the price for breakfast supplements using our B&B rates.  I have changed the product rule for our B&B rates to assign the new breakfast product to the rate code.

However we are now seeing examples where MEWS is adding the new product to bookings that already exist with the old product assigned, thereby creating a duplicate with both the old product and new product assigned to the booking.

I don’t want to create a new set of rate codes with the new breakfast price, since their are many dependencies and mappings that would require a lot of updating.

Anyone experienced anything similar and has a solution other than manually correcting it every time?

Thanks

HI @Callum Wheeler  we do face this issue once a yaer.

Easist is to use the old product, just change the breakfast price from the respective date on and afterwards contact MEWS support to run a job. please see below (also option 2)

Option 1 (reuse the same product):
– Update the product price (which you already did).
– Temporarily change the product rule action from “Add Halfpension” to “Cancel Halfpension”.
– Let us know, and we will run the FutureReservationUpdater to remove the product from all open future reservations and the ones within the editable history window.
– Change the product rule back to “Add Halfpension”.
– Ask us to run the updater again so it can re‑add the product at the correct price: 55 for stays before 15 March and 60 for stays on/after 15 March.

Option 2 (create a new product):
– Keep the old product.
– Create a new product such as “Halfpension updated” and set the price to 55 for the days before 15 March and 60 from 15 March onward.
– Update your product rules so that the old rule cancels the old product and a new rule adds the new product:

  • Change the old product rule to “Cancel Halfpension”
  • Add a new rule: “Add Halfpension updated”

– Ask us to run the FutureReservationUpdater. It will remove the old Halfpension from applicable reservations and add the new one with the updated pricing.

Thanks @Johannes Rott, that’s a very good and comprehensive solution.

My challenges with those are

  1. I cannot reuse the old product since I have other rate codes which have that product assigned that will not change.  If I change the existing product and update future reservations, any bookings made will have incorrect price
  2. I have many bookings already made for 2026 with the rate in the old product, and I do not want to update existing bookings with the new product, since this will increase the price.  Obviously I cannot change the price that guest already booked.

I  have a clear learning that for future changes, we need to schedule these changes in advance.  But I still wonder if there is another solution to my problem.

Thank you again for your reply

Hello @Callum Wheeler ,

This is a pretty significant flaw in the system. I’ve come across it several times, and it’s always a hassle when updating product rules. As you’ve already noticed, it also affects existing reservations.

I’ve created a Community post about this - please feel free to check it out. If you agree, I’d really appreciate your vote on the feature request included in the post.
