mproving Timeline View: Space Naming and Visual Room Separation

Hello,

We use MEWS for temple housing with separate male and female dormitory rooms, and we are looking for ways to improve the Timeline view for easier room management.

We have three questions:

1. Is it possible to rename bed spaces from letter-based labels to number-based labels?

For example:

003-A → 003-1

003-B → 003-2

003-C → 003-3

2. Is it possible to visually distinguish room groups by adding colors, colored bands, or highlighted sections in the Timeline view?

3. Is it possible to assign different colors to Space Categories (for example, Female Dorm Rooms and Male Dorm Rooms) so that staff can quickly identify them at a glance?

Our goal is to make the separation between room sections more obvious and reduce assignment mistakes. For example, we would like Female Dorm Rooms and Male Dorm Rooms to be clearly distinguished with different visual indicators.

If these options are not currently available, are there any recommended workarounds or best practices?

Thank you for your help.

Hello @INOUE1986

I’m Josue - one of the Community Ambassadors - and I’m happy to help clarify your questions regarding Timeline organization.

Thanks for explaining the setup. For a dormitory configuration like this, the best approach is to use consistent space naming and separate Space Categories, then use the Timeline filters to limit what staff see while assigning rooms.

  1. Renaming beds from letters to numbers

Yes, the bed space number can be edited in Mews Operations. Go to Settings > Property > Space configuration > Spaces, open the relevant bed, and update its Number field.

A consistent format such as 003-1, 003-2, and 003-3 should also make the beds easier to scan because Mews sorts spaces that begin with numbers from lowest to highest. Before changing a large number of existing spaces, it would be sensible to check whether any external integrations, key systems, printed instructions, or guest-facing workflows depend on the current names.

  1. Adding colored bands or highlighted room groups in the Timeline

The Timeline currently uses colors for reservation and housekeeping statuses - for example, reservations requiring action and spaces that are dirty, clean, out of service, or out of order. I cannot find a documented setting that allows properties to add custom colored bands or permanently highlight arbitrary room groups.

  1. Assigning colors to Space Categories

Space Categories are shown as groups in the left-hand side of the Timeline, and the Timeline supports filtering by Space Category. However, currently there is no option to assign a custom color to each category, such as one color for Female Dorm Rooms and another for Male Dorm Rooms.

If custom Timeline colors, colored room-group bands, or category-specific visual indicators would be important for your operation, you can submit this directly as a product feedback request at feedback.mews.com.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know! 😎

Hello Josue,

Thank you for the clear explanation.
This is very helpful. We'll try these suggestions and see how they work for our temple housing operation.

Thanks again for your support!

Best regards,
