Question

Managing LOS restrictions

Hello everybody,

I have a question with regards to LOS restrictions.

In the summer time we have a minimum LOS restriction of 4 nights.

Now the board is filling up nicely with reservations and there are several gaps forming of 3 nights or less across the whole summer / catagories.

Right now we have it set up as a LOS restriction per rate / room type for the summer period.

Is the only way to open up these gaps, to adjust each restriction to end right before a gap and create a new one that starts afterwards? That seems super work intensive and tedious. (considering across 60 rooms there are quite a few gaps, at seperate days)

Any tips / tricks? The chatbot is driving me insane.

@Pwattel  good morning,

yes i think you are right, thats the only option by now.
Why do you set them up by category? not for all categories?

It might be easier than just exclude one categorie for example for the restriction and add a new one with the gap period.

just to think about on that option.

Thank you @Johannes Rott

I set them up by category so that I don't have to remove & remake a blanket restriction for all categories when having to adjust a single one.

The situation that promted my question:

  • We have a Min. LOS restriction of 4 nights for the summer period on all rooms (split into different restrictions per category.)
  • Currently there are ~15 gaps of 3 or less nights across 6 different categories and many different dates.
  • Adjust the restrictions for each of these gaps would be quite the tedious and annoying task.

@Pwattel  i know that issue, we just use a minimum stay of two nights during some and do see a lot of gaps as well but we remove them a week prior to make sure selling all the rooms and that worked fine.

@Johannes Rott That is another option. But I would prefer to open them up further in advance. Compared to other PMS this seems like a really bad design choice by MEWS.

Hello @Pwattel

I’m Josue - one of the Community Ambassadors - and I’m happy to help clarify your question regarding the LOS restriction set up you’re looking for.

I completely understand the frustration here, and unfortunately you’re not missing a simpler setting. At the moment, Mews doesn’t natively automate gap-filling for minimum LOS restrictions, so if you want to open up those shorter gaps while keeping your summer LOS strategy in place, it usually does come down to manually adjusting the restriction periods around those gaps.

In such cases in the past I’ve noticed other properties in the Community mentioned:

  • using an RMS such as Atomize, RoomPriceGenie or Duetto to adjust LOS / CTA more dynamically,
  • or manage more of the restriction logic outside of Mews via the channel manager / CRS (using Mews mainly for inventory + base pricing).

However, in standard Mews this is mostly manual today.

There is also a related feature request already on the feedback board (link here), so it may be worth adding your vote/comment there too.

Hope that helps a bit — you’re definitely not the only one running into this and I apologize I don’t have a different option at the moment to offer.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know! 😎

~ Best regards,
