block specific OTA's from selling rooms to maximize sales and have 100% occupancy with no book out

Hello

It often happens in a busy city environment that we are left with just very few rooms on the day.  These rooms can be  snapped up at the same time by different OTA’s which leads to overbookings.

Is it possible to block specific OTA’s for certain dates to book? I know i can add restrictions but these apply to all OTA’s. If I add a restriction to the OTA’s, no room will be sold and im left with unsold rooms , but if I have no restrictions, , it can lead to a book out. Catch 22 and far from ideal, but it would be so much easier if we would be able to keep a selected channel of selling us, so we can manage our availability much more efficiently  and maximize revenue

Hi @kerstinB 👋

You’re absolutely right — if multiple OTAs share the same rate plan, then closing availability for just one OTA isn’t possible from Mews. Any restriction applied to that rate plan will affect all connected channels.

While creating separate rate plans per OTA would work technically, I agree it can be time-consuming and confusing.

In this setup, the only practical way to close one OTA without affecting the others is through your channel manager, which supports channel-specific controls.

It would be nice if there is a setting for under sell limits on OTA and channels. We have with this feature in Synixis PM system at our Wyndham property. I would like to see something similar in MEWS

we use DIRS21 as our channel manager and in DIRS it is possible to close single channels. I guess this is what you want. I haven’t seen such a restriction in Mews.

This is one of the reasons why we kept the channel manager although Mews is connected to booking.com and expedia.

Hi @kerstinB  👋

Totally understand the challenge — when you’re down to the last few rooms, multiple OTAs can grab availability at the same time, which increases the risk of overbookings.

In Mews, you can’t close an OTA as a whole, but you can close the rate plans mapped to that OTA, which has the same practical effect.

✅ How to close just one OTA’s availability

  1. Go to Rate management > Restrictions > Create restriction

  2. Choose Close to stay

  3. Select the exact dates

  4. Under Rates, pick only the OTA-mapped rate plan(s) (e.g., Booking.com, Expedia)

  5. Save — the closure will sync to the OTA via your channel manager

This closes that OTA for those dates while keeping your other channels (including direct) open.

A few notes

  • Some OTAs (e.g., Expedia) may apply closures to all rates under a room type, depending on their hierarchy.

  • If you're using a channel manager like SiteMinder or D-EDGE, they often offer even more granular, channel-specific controls on their side.

Using rate-level closures is currently the best way in Mews to prevent last-minute overbookings while still keeping other channels open and selling.

Best,

Best,

This does not solve it as the OTA’s are linked to the same rate plan and setting different rate plans for each separate OTA is not only time consuming, but confusing
