We would like to create an availability block that generally excludes certain days of the week.
Specifically, we would like to block certain rooms for a company from Monday to Friday for the entire year, but automatically exclude weekends.

Is there a way to set up such a recurring availability block in Mews without having to create individual availability blocks on a weekly basis?

Hello @Sonja,

I’m Josue - one of the Community Ambassadors - and I’m happy to help clarify your question regarding availability blocks. 🙂

At the moment, Mews availability blocks always apply to a continuous date range and don’t support a recurring pattern by day of week (e.g. “every Monday–Friday, excluding weekends, for the whole year”) in a single block. This means there isn’t currently a way to have one recurring availability block that automatically skips Saturdays and Sundays.

That said, there are a couple of practical options depending on what you want to achieve:

Option 1 – Keep the block, but manually set weekends to 0

If the main goal is to hold a fixed number of rooms just for that company on weekdays, you can:

  1. Create a single availability block for the whole period (e.g. 01/01–31/12) for the relevant space categories and company.

  2. In the block, use Adjust → Edit to set how many rooms you want to hold per day.

  3. For weekend dates, manually change the allocation to 0 for those days in the availability grid. When a date has 0 blocked rooms, it isn’t deducted from your public availability, so weekends remain fully open for everyone else to book.

This still involves some manual setup (you’d need to clear Saturdays and Sundays in the grid), but you only do it once at block creation, and then the pattern is set for the year.

Option 2 – Skip the block and use a weekday‑only corporate rate

If you don’t absolutely need rooms to be pre‑blocked for that company (i.e. you’re okay with them booking from general inventory), then you can avoid blocks altogether and rely on restrictions:

  1. Create a corporate/company rate (or use an existing one) that’s linked to that company.

  2. In rate restrictions, set that rate to be bookable only Monday–Friday (using the days‑of‑week and date filters).

  3. Leave no availability block in place for those rooms.

In this setup:

  • The company can only book their rate on weekdays.

  • The rooms are never blocked on weekends – they remain fully available to sell on any other rate.

The trade‑off is that you’re not guaranteeing a fixed allotment just for that company; you’re just controlling when their rate is valid. For more details on creating those restrictions, here is our guide that delves more into this process: How to create restrictions in Mews Operations

If you’d like this weekday‑only pattern to be available natively for blocks in the future, I’d also recommend adding it as a product idea in our feedback portal so our Product team can track demand.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know! 😎

Dear Sonja

I think that you can find the solution under the restrictions that can be made in MEWS. I will post the link to the explanation from MEWS itself under here: https://help.mews.com/s/article/managing-restrictions?language=en_US

Hope this helps!

Dear Margot,

Thank you! I believe this might not fully solve the case.
Restrictions would limit bookings for the connected rate, but they wouldn’t prevent the room itself from being blocked on weekends, correct?

What I’m looking for is a way to create an availability block that applies only on specific weekdays (Mon–Fri) without blocking the room on weekends at all.
