Mews BI - sort order

Hi all,

We've recently started using Mews BI for accounting and daily reporting. One thing we've noticed is that report segments can only be sorted alphabetically (A–Z or Z–A).

For our reporting, it would be much more useful to define a custom sort order rather than relying on alphabetical sorting.

Is anyone else missing this functionality? If so, how are you working around it today?

Thanks!

Hi Johannes,

You're right, Mews BI sorts segments alphabetically and ignores any ordering you've set on the objects in Commander, so there's no native custom sort yet. Two workarounds that hold up well:

1. Force the order with a numeric prefix on the segment names. This is the cleanest way to get a custom order inside Mews BI with no extra tools. Since it sorts A to Z, rename the underlying segment so alphabetical equals the order you want, for example "1. Accommodation", "2. F&B", "3. City tax", "4. Other". BI then lists them in that order. For accounting and daily reporting this is usually ideal, because a numbered chart of accounts order is what accountants want anyway. One rule: only do this on back office names like accounting categories and classifications. Don't prefix anything guest facing like rate names or space categories, or the numbers show up in the booking engine and on confirmations.

2. Keep a sort rank for the exceptions. If there are segments you can't or don't want to renumber, export the report and keep a small lookup table that gives each segment a rank (Accommodation = 1, F&B = 2, and so on), then sort by that rank. Set it up once as a template and it's paste and refresh each day. Handy for the few names you'd rather leave clean.

Option 1 covers most of it today. And since a proper custom sort order is a fair ask, and the BI tool keeps getting better, I'd vote for it. :)

HI @Erick Adorno thank you on your reply.

We thought of using a-corperate b-individual and so but as we do have a few own bulit excel reports attached to the segements we first need to reconfigurate them.quite a hassle… but for now we stick with a-z as it is and need to tip in the few numbers manually.

our accounting is old fashioned with excel and all that stuff so everything change we want or need to do is a nightmare :-D
