Hi All, I am looking into options for a contactless check-in situation with key code locks. I currently have 2 properties. The first property I am using the Saffire Evo lock from Dormakaba and am working with Lynx for the integration. The second property, I had Schlage Key Card NDE Wireless locks, I am learning there is not a great option for contactless check-in with these, considering Mews doesn’t support Schlage and there is the physical key card involved. So I am looking to sell them and buy something that works more seamlessly. Are there key code locks that work seamlessly with Mews using Akia or Operto for key codes sent to the guest? Does anyone know what pricing looks like for those integrations?

Hi!

Do you really require codes? Or will mobile keys (sent to smart phone) combined with rfid key cards as an alterntive also do it?

The AssaAbloy solution VingCard in their current form with cloud software “vostio” allows regular keycards as well as mobile keys (based on BluetoothLE technology). It’s well integrated with MEWS.

For guests not having smart phones or willing to use mobile keys you can provide a check-in kiosk for encoding key cards in a self service way.

Of course, hardware is required and it might be no small investment to change locks….

(btw, we do use the AssaAbloy solution, but without mobile key, as there is an additional cost associated with mobile key genereation and we decided it’s not worth it + we thought it might create more problems than it solves - think “battery depleted”, “phone lost/stolen” … idk, maybe that’s not true and it works like a charm … 🙂 )

JP.

Hi Chreholt

I’m not sure I fully understand your requirements, but we use Salto locks at our aparthotel. Salto integrates with Mews. The room locks use keycards which are cut at reception. Because our aparthotel is not manned 24/7, we use the Mews kiosk so guests can self-check-in and cut their own keycards when staff are not there. So that guests can access the building itself when staff are not there, on our main front door we have a Salto XS4 which can be unlocked both with a guest’s room key and with a code that guests type in. I believe this lock also supports NFC and Bluetooth.

I hope this helps!

I don’t have much experience with keycode locks, but the Mews digital key works with Assa Abloy, and Salto is planned. I have pretty good experiences with digital keys, some guests don’t like it, but most think it’s great - the only thing i would say is to make the process for letting the guest know how they access the digital key as smooth as possible, without too many steps.  The battery depleted can happen, but you just build into the routine that it is checked a couple of times year, especially if you live in a cold climate 🙂 but housekeeping will see that there is a low battery warning a while before it is empty.

Hi chreholt, Have a look at Key & Card. We are using them for over a year now. One hotel with outside check-in machine and rfid locks. Two hotels with locks that work with code, rfid and bluetooth key. Mews interface two encode cards existist, generating door codes will come. Regards, Frank
