Hi @Johannes Rott, Wallet keys are only compatible with the latest version of Vostio from Assa Abloy. If you’re using TESA and want to have Wallet keys, then it would be worth speaking with your existing contacts at Assa abloy about the costs to get your system compatible.

We are experiencing difficulties finding anyone at ASSA who knows how to complete this process.

I have already filled out the form and reached out to my contact, but no one seems to know how to actually set it up. I submitted this the same day it was announced.

At the moment, we are using Vostio with digital keys through the Digital Key app.

Could you please advise if there is someone I can contact directly to get this set up?

Hi @Vegard Kaspersen, thank you for sharing this experience and the issues you’ve had so far.

I am following up with the central team at Assa Abloy that are supporting the Wallet key activation and we will work to get this moving forwards as soon as possible.

Hi All,

Does anyone have better insight on the Assa abloy charges?

We understand we need to have a license for digital key but then for wallet key will assa ably charge an additional amount per wallet key issued or is this charge from Mews?

Thanks,

Hello!

In a call with AssaAbloy Global last week we have been told that 40 cent (Euro or Dollar, I am not sure) per issued wallet key will be charged to the properties by AssaAbloy directly on a global basis.

It’s still very much a moving target, so don’t take it 100% for sure
 ;-)

Regards,

JP.

Hello!

I would just like to report back, now that we finally have been live with wallet keys 🙌  since last week!

It works as expected, but even from the short period of time we have been using it I can report the following key points:

  • to my surprise: a significant share of check-ins actually create a wallet key 👌
  • to my even greater surprise: most do not know that they created a key 😳
guest arrive, whether we welcome them in person or at the kiosk for late check ins, doesn’t matter, instead of going to their room directly they try to check-in. When on the kiosk they just follow the check in process that leads them to the “get keys” function to create physical keys, and do that, and don’t use the wallet keys at all. đŸ˜„ (that of course takes longer than a regular kiosk check in, because it creates confusion and requires to find and enter your confirmation number in addition to the reservation owner name)
  • sort of expected: whatever you put in writing in the before start emails or after check-in emails, usually is not read at all, attention span: 0,5 seconds 😼 - maybe we need to work with pictures or videos? But then ... in email? Really? 😉
  • totally expected: the weeks and weeks the discussion going back and forth on how the wallet FAQ must be structured and worded on our website was a total futile effort - no one reads them!Â đŸ€Ł

My suggestion to improve the guest experience and create attention and awareness:

  • integrate a function in the self check in kiosk that caters to those wallet key check ins:
    • in the check-in procedure - BEFORE they are required to enter the confirmation number -  explain that they already created a wallet key during online check in, maybe a short video or animation to show how it works, and only
    • then give them an option to create physical keys (transfer to “get keys” functionality)
  • another idea:
    • There is a button on the key in the wallet (at least in the apple wallet) that says “Check-in” - currently this button just leads back to the guest portal where guests cannot really do anything.

    • What if that button was used to link to a guest portal function to actually check the reservation in (set status to started) - provided that the room is read and CI time has passed
      • then we could just leave the reservation alone and the guests can activate their keys on their own by “checking in”.
      • the reservation would still be available for check-in on the kiosk ...

Summary: technically super elegant - hotel onboarding experience tedious - guest experience to be enhanced - creating awareness and attention at the right point is important and must be improved.

@james.taylor I shared some more detailed insight in some emails directly to you - we can follow up in face2face/video-call any time you like, if you feel it could help you.

Kind regards,

Jean-Philipp.

PS: Update 23.12.: some correction regarding the check-in process that I just got wrong in the first place, still valid concerns exist though...

Hi @j.spiess, thank you for sharing your experience so far in the community.

I replied to your email earlier today and am keen to explore with you further the experience you’re seeing guests have and how we can better inform them about the use of their Wallet keys, along with some of the other suggestions.

I look forward to discussing soon.

Does this also work with Salto?

Hi @Ivo, thank you for the question.

Currently, wallet-based keys are only compatible with Assa Abloy Vingcard door locks running Vostio. We’ve taken a note of the interest for Salto and will of course keep you informed if this changes in future.

Hi James,
can you give an update on the compatibility with Salto? Are there plans to integrate it in the near future?
best regards

This seems fantastic @gustavo.franco 👏👏👏 We tried investing in Bluetooth locks with Hoist (Planet) about two years ago, and that didn’t quite materialize—mainly because the technology didn’t work properly, but also because we already have a lot of Bluetooth in use, as all our lights run on Plejd technology.

Quick question: this is NFC technology, right? Meaning the phone will open the locks without using Bluetooth?

We’re currently looking into upgrading our locks and potentially moving to Assa or Salto, largely because we really want to leverage this. 👍
