Can anyone recommend (physical) ID scanners that work well with the Mews kiosk?

I have experience with AdriaScan and 365id (both have their up- and downsides), but not in combination with kiosk check-in.

I am aware that Mews offers ID scan via the camera, but in my tests, it didn’t work very well.

Hello,

Have you received any updates on this yet?
I would like to connect external scanners to the kiosk, if possible.

Hi @Robin Gustavsson, we used Adria Scan before but stopped with the switch to MEWS as the adria scan solution is not worse or better then the integrated MEWS Version.

Hello,

We use 365ID scanners at almost all of our hotels. We do not store ID copies in Mews; instead, the copies are stored on 365ID’s servers, which makes secure storage their responsibility.

Using Mews scanners means that ID copies would be stored within guest profiles, making their storage our responsibility.

Hi

That’s a very interesting perspective, I hadn’t looked at it that way before.

How does this work in practice on your side? Do you use iPads for check in and connect an external 365ID scanner to them? Or is the scanner integrated in a different way within your setup?

I’m particularly interested in understanding how the flow works operationally at reception or in a self check in environment.

Thanks!

Hello,

We have desktop computers and use a traditional check-in process. The front office employee takes the ID, inserts it into the scanner, and initiates the scan from the Mews guest profile. As the scanner is integrated with Mews, it is possible to store a copy of the ID in the guest profile; however, we have chosen not to do so.

The scanner does, however, populate missing guest data such as nationality.

If needed, we can access photos of the scanned IDs by contacting 365.

This setup acts as a safeguard, helping to minimize potential damage in case someone with malicious intent gains unauthorized access to the system.

It would be great to have our scanners integrated with a Mews Kiosk as well.

Thank you for the info!

The nationality is indeed forgotten often so that could be interesting, however it should work with the IPAD kiosk.

I will look into this, thanks!
