Kiosk Beta: Allow Guests to Divide their Bill with Kiosk Split Bills
Dear Mews Community,
As one of our new Product Managers, it is my pleasure to invite you to our newest Beta: Kiosk Split Bills!
For hoteliers wanting to more guest autonomy and aiming to reduce front desk interactions, Mews' new split payment feature empowers business guests to seamlessly divide their bills between corporate and personal payment methods directly at the Kiosk.
What it is:
A flexible payment solution designed for Kiosk check-in and check-out that allows guests to split their bills across multiple payment methods.
What it can do for you:
Increased Kiosk Usage: Reduce staff interactions by enabling guests to handle complex payment scenarios independently
Add and Edit Business Details: Allow business travelers to add business details to their bills from the kiosk.
Corporate Guest Convenience: Allow business travelers to easily separate corporate expenses (room, breakfast) from personal charges (spa, drinks)
Flexible Bill Management: Guests can create additional bills and move items between them as needed
Leisure Guest Support: Enable friends or families to split costs during their stay
Full Bill Visibility: Display all open bills for the reservation, including companion bills
Configurable Feature: Enable or disable split payments in your Kiosk configuration
Item-Level Control: Guests can choose specific items and quantities to assign to each bill
Multi-Payment Processing: Process multiple payment methods in a single transaction flow
What's included in this initial scope?
Split payments during check-in and check-out (not pre-authorizations)
Create and manage multiple bills per reservation
Move items between bills with full quantity control
Support for both business and leisure splitting scenarios
View all reservation bills including companion accounts
Configurable on/off setting in Kiosk options
What's not included (yet)
Splitting pre-authorizations across multiple cards
Dividing individual line items into partial amounts
Legacy balance check payment processing
The feature is already available in our demo environment but to experience it in production:

Configuration: Navigate to Services > Stays > Kiosks, select your kiosk, and enable “Guest can split bills” under options.

Yes, please ad us (Hotel SPIESS & SPIESS, Vienna, Austria) to the beta in Live Environment.
Does the functionality also apply in the guest portal (online Check-Out) ? That would be super convenient, when our business guests could check them self out online with the online checkout feature.

Hi everyone, thanks for your interest in the Beta! I’ll be adding the hotels and properties today. To answer your questions: No, it’s not available on guest portal and won’t be in the immediate future, but we will keep it in mind as a future improvement. And yes, we can later share a flow and/video here for everyone from the guest perspective.
And always we’re looking for feedback on the kiosk so feel free to share your thoughts and ideas.

That’s a wonderful video of the guest experience!
I saw that we do have the Option “Guests can split bills” available now:
But when I try to do it with an actual reservation for checkout the feature is not there …
Do we need to restart the App on the Kiosk?
Also in your screenshot there is an option “Automatically create company profiles” that we do not see - maybe that’s the reason ?

We had a strange error on our staff mode kiosk tablet this afternoon when trying to check-in a reservation that already had a company bill and routing rule attached to it prior to check-in: “unable ti fetch bills”:
On that kiosk we did not have the “Allow guests to split bills” option enabled (as we only use it in staff mode). Is that error related to this function? I have now enabled the option for this tablet too, to see if the error goes away, but could not yet verify …
BTW: the split bill function is still not available on the guest mode tablet… :-(

@jon.johannsson We actually had the same issue. For us it would be very helpful to get a step by step guide how to enable it. Watched the video, but what were lacking is more how to work with it in the „back-end“. Thanks a lot!

We are currently unable to checkin with tabletts, no matter if staff mode or guest mode …
please revert back to the regular production version for us in the meantime!
