I meant, for example, you would buy a voucher for you friend as a birthday present and you get a code, let’s say X12345 and that one can be used for 2 nights, valid for 1 time use, no matter when.

Ideally you’ll be able to have a restriction that says only 5 rooms per day can be booked with a code like that, the code is generally valid for 3 years but depending on availability to the number of rooms that you want to use for that.

Instead of using vouchers as gift cards, I recommend creating a dedicated product called "Gift Card Sale". This product would be tied to a designated accounting category.

Here is a step-by-step outline of how to manage gift cards effectively:

Step 1: Selling the Gift Card

1. Create a product in your system named "Gift Card".

2. Assign this product to a dedicated accounting account (e.g., “Gift Card sales”).

3. When a customer purchases a gift card:

   • Post the sale to the "Gift Card sale " account.

   • Process the payment using one of your accepted methods (card, cash, etc.).

   • Issue the physical or digital gift card with the corresponding value.

   • Print a bill for the customer.

Step 2: Redeeming the Gift Card

1. Book the reservation using your flexible or standard rate.

2. When the guest arrives, they present the gift card as payment.

3. Add an external payment that has the same accounting as the gift card Sale product.

4. If the total room charge exceeds the value of the gift card:

   • The guest can pay the remaining balance on-site using any of your accepted payment methods.

Thank you for your input, Robin, yes I might have used the wrong wording, a gift card would explain it better. 

Nevertheless, my thought was to use a code when making a reservation via the homepage, which allows the gift card to be redeemed, do you know what I mean? We don't have a physical reception, we would like to give someone an overnight voucher, or as you call it, an overnight gift card, in the form of a code that can be redeemed online. First of all, I just wanted to know if this is possible :)

I think I understand what you mean -  you're referring to a payment policy that allows a different payment method to be applied (in this case, Gift Card), where the rate with this special policy would be unlocked or made available by using a voucher. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, since we are not using the Mews Booking Engine, I cannot say for certain whether that functionality is available. However, to the best of my knowledge, I have not seen that feature offered in Mews.
