Hi there,

Is there a way to manage parent room categories when using a CRS connectivity that calculates availability based on reservations rather than being sent per room type?

For example, if we have two Standard Rooms with connecting doors that can also be booked as a "Family Room," the issue arises when both Standard Rooms are reserved. In Mews, the Family Room correctly becomes unavailable, but in the CRS, it remains bookable since no reservations are directly blocking that category. The same issue occurs in reverse—if the Family Room is booked, the Standard Rooms remain available in the CRS.

Currently, the integration does not support parent room functionality, but developing this feature could unlock significant revenue potential. It would be great to explore the possibility of implementing it.

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

usually (if the availability is synced for all categories) this should work as Mews would update the availability of the family room, whenever the standard rooms are booked as well.

Which CRS are you using?

Hi Svenja,
Thanks for your input! The hotel is on the new BWH CRS connectivity. So availability is not read on room level by the CRS, but instead calculates it based on the room type in the synced reservations. So let’s say the connecting room is booked - then the CRS doesn’t get the info that the 2 standard rooms are blocked, as the reservation is made on the parent room category.

Best,

Hello Robert!

It’s May from Mews Support Team here :)

This is quite a complex situation as the BWH CRS works in a different way than the others we work with in Mews. For further investigation, it would be best if we get a chance to review your specific situation with our CS Support Team.

Generally, the BWH CRS works in a way where they have a certain availability set up during the onboarding phase for the property. Any availability changes are done by the CRS itself by recalculating. The way it occurs is as below

  1. CRS has availability set up for property
  2. CRS sends Mews reservation
  3. Mews confirm that reservation is integrated
  4. CRS takes this confirmation as a trigger to re-calculate the availability of the property.

Please open a ticket via your normal process and we are happy to investigate to see where the feature limitation is originating from so that we can figure out the possible solutions for you. Thank you!
