Mews terminal S2 and payment progress status

We use the wireless terminal at the Front Desk, and our Wi-Fi is fast. It works very well overall, but there is a delay between when you charge the guest and when the payment is posted to the bill.

Sometimes the guest becomes unsure and asks us questions like:

  • “What does it say here?”
    Often the terminal displays messages such as:

  • Enter code

  • Multi currency

  • Various messages about why the transaction didn’t go through

  • Card not read correctly

It would be great if the terminal’s status messages were also shown in the Mews UI, so that staff could follow the payment status and assist the guest when they ask questions on what steps to take.

Just like you currently see a short confirmation in the upper right corner when a payment has been completed, it would be helpful to also see the status before the payment is finalized.

 

Is there a setting for this? Does anyone know?

I would also recommend opening a case with our support team and replicating the issue with providing us a video showing what appears in the Mews Terminal versus what is showing in Mews, so we can review it further.

Hello!

 

The delay is about 5–10 seconds, but that is not primarily what I want to highlight. The issue is that we cannot see what stage the payment is in. In other words, is the terminal waiting for an action from the guest? For example:

 

Enter PIN

 

Select currency

 

Insert card / the card needs to be read again

 

This means that when the guest is not paying attention to what is shown on the payment terminal, they ask the reception terminal — and we cannot see what the payment terminal displays in Mews.
