Hello,

If you have a certain age restriction to be allowed to stay in certain rooms, how are you restricting this with the Mews booking engine?

For example, we have one room type which cannot accommodate children under 5years. The only workaround we found is to write this in the room description, however guests still see the option to add how many children/infants to their reservation so doesn’t really solve the problem.

We also have dormitory rooms which are adult only, but again they are offered child/infant as these are allowed in other room categories.

Thanks,

Hi @Sam.C,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Nic from the Customer Support team and I am happy to assist you today!

I understand you're looking for a way to restrict room bookings by age in the Mews Booking Engine.

Currently, the Mews booking engine does not have a direct feature to restrict specific room categories based on the age of guests. For example, you cannot set a rule that prevents a "Dormitory" from being booked by anyone under 18, or a "Suite" from being booked by families with children under 5.

This is because the system's capacity is determined by the total number of people, not by a specific breakdown of adults and children for that room type.

This is a known limitation, and I can see other customers also consider this feature to be essential and have already submitted their feedback here - Under Space Categories, add a feature so that extra capacity is for children only. – Welcome to the Product Ideas Forum. Our product team is aware of this demand and reviews these suggestions when planning future updates.

Current Workarounds and Solutions

While a direct feature is not yet available, here are some workarounds that you may find useful:

  • Update Room Descriptions: The most common approach is to clearly state any age restrictions in the room description. Though I understand that this does not physically prevent guests from booking the room.

  • Create Specific Rate Groups: You can create specific rates, such as a "Family Rate" or an "Adults Only Rate".

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Kind regards,

Nic
