I'm currently facing a challenge with managing "sandwich days" in our booking setup. We typically require a minimum three-night stay for arrivals on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays. However, when a guest books from Tuesday to Friday and there's another arrival scheduled for Sunday, this blocks potential guests from booking a Friday and Saturday stay.
I'd like to enable two-night bookings starting on a Friday in such cases. Could anyone advise on the best way to create a manual restriction in Mews to allow this?
Additionally, how does your team handle these types of sandwich days? At the moment, I'm manually scanning the timeline for the entire year to identify and adjust them, which is quite time-consuming.
Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Humberto, my name is Dani and I wanted to jump in and see if I could help you with this inquiry.
In the instance you are describing, I would create a few restrictions here:
Closed to Stay (CTS), all rate/spaces (or as needed for your setup), applying to Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with an exception of minimum length of 3 nights
Closed to Stay, all rates/spaces (or as needed for your setup), applying to Friday, with an exception of maximum length of stay 2 nights AND minimum length of stay 2 nights
The effect of these two restrictions would mean Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are not bookable unless the reservation is a minimum of 3 nights (restriction 1). Further, Friday is not available for booking unless it is a 2 night booking (restriction 2).
I hope this helps!
Current Restrictions
Hi @dani.molina ,
Thanks so much for your quick response—wasn’t expecting to hear back so fast, and I really appreciate you jumping in!
I took a screenshot of our current restrictions—it might look like a bit of a mess, but just to give you a general sense of our setup:
We require a 3-night minimum for guests arriving on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday
And a 2-night minimum for those arriving Sunday through Wednesday
That said, I did manage to apply a few restrictions for June 11–14, where we’re currently requiring a 3-night stay across that span. Just wanted to check if that aligns with the approach you suggested, or if there’s a better way to structure it using the restrictions you outlined.
Also, as shown in the screenshot, I inputted Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, with the intention that guests booking either of those dates would be able to reserve a 2-night stay. Unfortunately, I’m not able to make it work as expected. Maybe if I sent you these screenshots, it’d be easier to walk me through the best setup?
Thanks again for your help—I really appreciate the support!
Hi Humberto, thank you for the additional information.
A few additional questions:
Do you have a restriction already created for the 2-night minimum on stays arriving Sunday through Wednesday? I do not see it on the screenshot so would like clarification if possible.
I can see there is a CTA from May 28th onwards, applying on Thursday - Saturday, but there is also the aforementioned CTA restriction for June 11th - 14th. Both of these reservations, have the same parameters and exceptions. The only difference being the days in which the restriction should apply.
For the June 6th/7th restriction, what is the outcome that is not working as expected and what should be the intended result?
I am happy to help in any way to get this figured out for you :)
Thanks again for all your help—I really appreciate the support you've been giving me throughout this process!
To clarify where things currently stand: I've removed the unnecessary restrictions and kept just my two defaults—one for weekdays and one for weekends, both visible in the screenshot I attached.
My goal right now is to create a bit of flexibility for the weekend of June 6th through 9th. At the moment, the system requires a 3-night minimum for arrivals on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. However, I have a guest departing on Friday, June 6th, and I’d like to allow new bookings for just 2 nights if the arrival date is Friday, June 6th. Ideally, this would apply only for that specific date range—June 6th through 9th—without affecting the broader weekend restrictions.
Let me know the best way to set this up while keeping the rest of my parameters intact.
Thanks again—looking forward to your insights!
Hello @HAlvarez !
Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the delay in response. My name is Addie and I am jumping in for Dani.
Thank you for clarifying the current set up and what you’re hoping to achieve. Right now, the restrictions functionality does not allow for restrictions to be overwritten or bypassed for specific dates. If there are overlapping restrictions of the same type, the system will prioritize the more restrictive restriction.
I recommend setting the default restrictions to be ‘Active until’ June 5th and creating a second set of the default restrictions with an ‘Active from’ date of June 10th.
This should make the restriction you created for June 6-9 work as expected. If you want to close arrival for guests on June 7-9, you should create an additional Closed-to-arrival restriction for those dates.
Feel free to open a ticket with our ADA chatbot if you’d like further clarification. We kindly ask that you attach or reference this Community post, which will help our investigation.
Thank you!
Hi Addie,
Thanks so much for jumping in—and no worries at all about the delay!
That actually makes perfect sense. I had a feeling that was the case, but I was thrown off a bit because, in the past, when I set up similar restrictions for our other listings, Mews would usually create those two additional restrictions automatically—basically wrapping them around the specific date range I was trying to isolate. This time, it didn’t do that, so I figured I might’ve missed a step or made an error somewhere along the way.
I really appreciate you clarifying how the system prioritizes the more restrictive settings—it helps a lot. I’ll go ahead and adjust the restrictions with the June 5th and June 10th boundaries as suggested, and I’ll also add the closed-to-arrival restriction for the 7th–9th.
Thanks again for your help!
