Hi Benelux Mewsers,

I have already posted the following in another topic, but thought it would be interesting to mention it here as well.

How do you handle the rounding of cash payments?

By payment rounding I mean that all cash payments are rounded to the nearest 5 (i.e. €7.93 becomes €7.95 and €13.41 becomes €13.40).

As Mews does not (yet) support payment rounding as a feature, we have created a 'payment rounding' product with a value of €0.01. This is to ensure that all transactions are recorded correctly for accounting purposes. However, this is far from ideal as staff have to manually post each rounding every time.

I wondered how other properties were coping with this legal requirement.

Warm regards from Bruges,

Matthias

Hello @MatthiasH

Dear,

I thought the rounding rule only applies to cach payments, all other payments should not be rounded if they run digitally. Is it also not a solution to have all prices end at a 0,5 €. to have less problems.

Kind regards,
Hotel St Pol Team

Hi @barb00sa,

Thank you for participating. It's actually only compulsory for cash payments.
We try to keep our prices at €0.5, but frankly this is impossible in many cases:

  • The tourist tax here is €3.98 per adult per night.
  • Discounted rates (with % discount)

Kind regards,

Matthias

Hi @MatthiasH

There is currently a Mews development team working on the 1 cent rounding issue with tax.

I know this is a different issue but what I suggested to them was an auto correction added (on closing) when it is only a few cents.

It would solve this issue as well. If you suggest this also to the team they could fix both issues at the same time.

Have a nice afternoon!

Sam

Hi @Jones,

Thanks for this information.

An automatic correction for cash payments is indeed what we would be looking for. I've already raised this with the support team a couple of times, but the only response I've gotten so far is to suggest it on the feedback portal...

Fingers crossed they will read it here and maybe start looking into it.

Kind regards,

Matthias

Hi @barb00sa,

Thank you for your reply.

In fact, the problem only persists for cash payments.
We do our best to have round numbers, but this is not always possible for discounted fares and city taxes, for example. Fingers crossed that an automatic rounding can be implemented soon.

Kind regards,

Matthias

It could be like a product/settlement rule altogether, but that might be hard to implement

A dialogue box opening when selecting cash payment while on the bill asking : “Amount to be rounded?”

The developpers might need to revamp the accounting categories settings to do so, or just the creation of a new product might sufficient...🤔

I don’t know, I’m just “thinking” out loud 😀

S.

Hi Stéphane,

I absolutely agree.

However, I think that a dialogue box would not be needed and just an automatic calculation.
Fingers crossed that the payment team takes care of this soon 😃
