Learn why email is the safest way to use 2FA

Phishing attempts targeted at the hospitality industry are becoming increasingly sophisticated, so staying secure requires extra measures.

Falling victim to a phishing attempt and granting unauthorized access to malicious entities can result in significant financial harm to both your guests and your hotel. It’s easy to make a mistake, especially with how creative these campaigns are.

Prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information

One effective way to protect your business is by implementing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This security measure requires users to verify their identity through a secondary method, adding an extra layer of protection to your accounts.

Why choose email for 2FA?

While both email and authenticator apps are safe ways of using 2FA, using email for authentication is our recommended method. Here are the benefits of using email:

  • Increased security: using a link sent to the email keeps users on legitimate domains, avoiding manual code entry that phishing websites often exploit.

  • Simplicity: Verification links or codes are sent directly to your email.

  • Accessibility: As long as you have access to your email, you can authenticate your login from any device.

  • Convenience: A link or code via email-based 2FA integrates seamlessly into your existing workflow, minimizing disruptions.

How to enable 2FA via email

Protecting your hotel's information is straightforward. Follow these steps to set it up:

  1. Access your Account Settings: Log in to your Mews account and navigate to the security settings.

  1. Enable 2FA: Select the option to enable Two-Factor Authentication.

  1. Choose email verification: Select email as your preferred method for receiving verification links.

  1. Confirm and save: Follow the prompts to confirm your email address and save the changes.

Hi!

That is a great concept to make 2FA more phishing resistant. Everyone be sure that the email account used should be protected by 2FA itself (which is a good idea anyway).

Are concepts like conditional access and passkeys on the roadmap?

Regards,

JP.
