Last week, Skift published an extensive report on The State of Travel 2023. Don’t miss it! It reveals 250+ insights defining the state of travel today and the trends that will shape the future.

Through their findings, they have declared that 2023 ‘’is the year that travel fully recovered’’. Would you agree?

There are some really interesting highlights around:

  • Which are the countries are lagging behind in making this full recovery.
  • GDP is 20-30% higher than it was pre-pandemic while travel has only just recovered. This suggests that there is still potential for significant ‘catch up’ growth in travel in every region of the world.
  • U.S. outbound travel spending is $2 billion above pre-pandemic levels

And where the opportunities are for hotels:

Remote work boosts travel: The impact of remote work for business travellers - the majority reported that they have taken more shorter trips and/or travelled for an extended time, due to the flexibility that remote work provides them.

The blended travel trend, or ‘bliesure’: the global regional trends of this work/play hybrid of travel.

Coworking is an opportunity for hotels: More than half of the respondents in the survey are working out of a coworking space and said that their companies reimburse the coworking space expense that they incur, offering an opportunity for accommodation providers to steal some share of this revenue.
