Dear colleagues and Mews addicts ;-)

Does anyone know why a customer sometimes gets automatic emails in different languages from Mews.

Have a customer who books online on our site in Dutch language. Gets an automatic mail forwarded in French. Afterwards a mail " Before start" in Dutch then a mail " Booking confirmation" in Dutch then a mail " succ pre" again in French.
Customer is angry and wants his mails in Dutch and when I check his customer card I see that the Dutch language is set there.

Does anyone know what to do?

Gr Robin

Hi Robin,

I just checked-our queues and don’t notice the same issue persisting.

I can only think of 2 possible issues:

  • The guest booked via your website in French and late changed his language preference to Dutch?
  • Some-one of your staff accidentally sent the email in French?

Another reason could be that sometimes a different language is set in the ‘Internals’ section of the guest profiles. This because the guest choose to use French at a certain point during the booking process.

This article can maybe help? https://help.mews.com/s/article/how-are-email-languages-determined?language=en_US

If the guest selects the language in the guest portal, then the Internals tab shows this language irrespective of the language that is set in the Customer profile.  Therefore the guest can have chosen Language in the Customer profile (e.g.) as Dutch and have Nationality Netherland but if in the Internals tab it is English, all communication will be sent in the English language. Only the customer can change the language in the guest portal.  (The language preference can be set and changed by a customer while using various Mews applications.)

Hope this helps,

Thanks @MatthiasH

you are faster than an express train, thanks for your help, indeed the customer accidentally made the reservation on the French website, and we afterwards changed the language to Dutch.

This is a great bit of investigation work @MatthiasH  Thank you! We’ll get the article updated with this helpful FAQ.
@barb00sa  ‘Mews addicts’ - love it. Would be interesting to know who in this community considers themselves as that - perhaps that’s my next poll! 😁
