As for the guest journey, we have included the SMS add-on. It works well; however, we’ve noticed that for guests who don’t have an email address but only a phone number, no additional SMS is sent. We’re wondering if there’s a setting that allows the system to send the SMS in such cases — so that guests without an email address but with a phone number still receive the message. This would help encourage them to use the online check-in even when we don’t have their email.

From what I know it should work. We have used the sms package for a few months but it was a bit to expensive for the outcome.
Thanks, Johannes! We think the SMS add-on works well and is worth the cost since it increases the use of online check-in. However, it still only triggers once an email address exists — not without one. My goal is to enable guests who only have a phone number (cellular of course as is the case for nearly 100% of guests in Sweden) to also be able to check in online.

ok but i am courios how do you get your reservations? Email address is required here in MEWS as unique identifer for the guest profile.
If these are direct bookers you might change your needed information to inlcude them into your needs.
Only issue we see here is with booking.com as the links are blocked on there message system but you might get their phone number as well.
We only get email adress thruu our own channels, and the “phony” adresses from OTA’s. For all Travel agency reservations we never get emails to the guest.
ok i do not know your set up and your business mix but at least expedia and booking.com should hand over fake email addresses to get in touch with the costumer…
I know! For OTAs it works so smoothly — they receive the actual check-in emails not only through their chat but also directly in their inboxes. I’ve tested it myself several times.

does it work with booking.com as they are blocking links on mobile devices?
Hi @Mark_Alexander_Joel,
Thank you for post. My name is Nic from the Support Team and I am happy to assist you!
Please note that the Guest Portal currently requires a valid email address to create the guest’s portal profile and generate the secure, tokenized link that we include in our messages. Because of that dependency, Mews only sends the SMS when there’s an email on the profile; without an email, we don’t send the SMS invite/reminder.
I hope this clarifies it. If you have any other questions, please let us know!
Kind regards,
Nic

Good to know! Needed information.
Hi! I have noticed this. However, my question is related to the fact that we are missing a whole range of opportunities to communicate and obtain complete guest profiles for all guests who have booked through a traditional travel agency, since we typically do not have email addresses in these guest profiles — only sometimes phone numbers. For us, this accounts for about 70% of all bookings. My idea is to perhaps capture these guests as well during the guest journey by sending an SMS prompting them to complete a registration in the guest portal, where details such as email can then be provided.
Hi @Mark_Alexander_Joel
Thank you for bringing this up! As this functionality is currently not available, I’d highly recommend sharing your idea on the feedback forum, where our product team actively reviews suggestions to guide future improvements.
Thanks
