Hi Community,

which door lock systems would you recommend for an independent / non-branded hotel using Mews?

Our main requirement is a fully integrated Digital Key, ideally without requiring the guest to visit reception.

At the moment, I understand that Mews Digital Key officially supports ASSA ABLOY Vingcard/Vostio and SALTO Space. (Mews)

We would be especially interested in hearing about:

  • ASSA ABLOY Vostio / Vingcard

  • SALTO Space

  • Other solutions integrated via partners such as FLEXIPASS

  • Experiences with Apple/Google Wallet keys vs. Bluetooth/app-based keys

  • Reliability, costs and support

  • Integration with Mews Kiosk / Online Check-in

From what I can see, ASSA ABLOY Vostio currently has the advantage of native wallet-based keys with Mews, while SALTO Space is currently supported for Mews’ Bluetooth Digital Key. (Mews)

Would love to hear what other independent hotels are using and what you would choose if installing a completely new lock system today.

We are working with Axces/Onity which also integrates smoothly with Mews PMS and Kiosk and support also the digital key system

Hi Johannes,

I work on the Onboarding team and have had the opportunity to work with several digital key solutions. I have also worked with them firsthand while onsite at properties during onboarding, so I wanted to share some of my experience and thoughts.

If the priority is a fully contactless arrival with no app download, ASSA ABLOY Vostio NFC would be my first recommendation. With the wallet based key experience, the digital key can be shared with the guest after online check in, allowing them to go directly to their room without needing to visit reception.

If a Bluetooth and app based experience is acceptable, ASSA ABLOY Vingcard/Vostio and SALTO Space are both options I have worked with and would recommend looking into for Bluetooth Digital Key.

For a completely new installation, my initial shortlist would be Vostio NFC if wallet based, no app access is the top priority. Otherwise, I would compare SALTO Space and Vingcard/Vostio Bluetooth based on local installer capabilities, total cost, support, and most importantly, the guest journey.

Before making a final decision, I would also recommend asking each vendor for a live end to end demonstration, starting with Mews online check in and going all the way through room access. I would specifically ask them to demonstrate offline access and exception scenarios as well.

I have personally worked with all of these options and have had good experiences with them. Ultimately, I think the best choice comes down to the experience you want to provide to your guests and the operational setup of the property.

the decision is made. It is going to be Salto Space! For now pin codes and hopefully wallet keys in the future. Can you share any insights for the set up. We plan to go live in March 2027. and onboarding to MEWS beginning of November 2026.
